This afternoon I paid 81 smackers for one 80 CFargon refill. That included $5.85 hazmat feeand $2.00 'inspection and maintenance fee'.Past charges for the same refill were:$64.22$50.88...in 2004Is this about the right ballpark for argon?I found it interesting that I paid sales taxon the surcharges, too.Ouch!--Winston

So why would anyone get an 80? The 127s arnt all that much bigger. I can understand if someone needs a portable bottle to haul around from job site to job site...but around the home or shop??????

80 is a convenient size to handle, easy to carry vs. wrestle. For a home shop where you go through a cylinder a year, the cost difference for the gas is pretty irrelevant.

Ok. I dont do all that much tig, all things considered, but I go through at least 3 of the 127s a year. Well..up until the heart surgery and the follow up stroke. Since then, 18 months ago, Ive only gone through 2 of the 127s

The only thing I get any relief on is I generally do all my mig with CO2..and a bottle lasts me almost a year. And only costs $12 to refill

You have a semi open air shop if I recall, you probably run your argon at a higher flow rate than I do in a closed shop. I typically run about

12 CFH, and also a fairly short post-flow.

The previous cylinder I had was a rental and was larger than the 80 I have now. After renting 3 or 4 years I returned it with over 1000 PSI left, used less than a half tank in all those years. Me and/or my machine wasn't very good at what I was messing with so I never got good at it. I could run nice looking beads on a solid piece but when it came to joining 2 pieces I had to build it up a lot before it would bridge over. Imagine 1/16" thick aluminum with a weld bead 1/2" wide, that's about the way it was. More heat melted the metal away.

I have since found in the manual that there are jumper settings that is supposed to be better if you have rectification problems causing poor cleaning, maybe that's what's going on. The factory default settings could give this problem if I understand correctly.

I run at 15 CFH, according to my gauge and about a 5-8 second post flow on tig
