MIG wire lube pad

Feb 07, 2005 2 Replies

My MIG welder has one of those felt cleaning pads that rides along the wire just before it goes out into the line.

What - if any - lubrication/cleaner should be placed on/into the pad?

Don't put anything on it. When it is gummed and black in one location fold it in another direction or back over to use the opposite side. One pad can be used on many rolls of wire before replacing. Some people swear by the pads and others swear at them. Randy

A word of caution - some wire manufacturers put a thin layer of lubricant on the wire to enhance feedability. Using the felt pad can actually remove the lubricant and cause feeding problems....the very thing they are supposed to help!
