The Miller is a nice machine, but the Lincoln gives you a basic built in pulser.

I still think the Thermal Arc Prowave 185TSW for $1750 is a better deal. Smaller lighter, uses half the amps of either of the above machines, digital readouts, full pulser and sequencer and variable AC wave frequency for aluminum.

I have the miller 180sd and had never tig welded before buying it last summer. I really love the machine. I would read as much as possible (google group search, Ernie has given priceless advise over the years) and I also bought the lincoln welding book "Procedure Handbook "Thirteenth Edition" , great source for general info. I visit my local welding supply store and ask alot of questions, no answer is too dumb. Good luck, keep us posted on any projects you produce with your new tig machine. My first project:

it's addicting! now i would rather tig weld any projects than mog weld them.

mog weld??? make that MIG weld, Ernie, is there a "mog" welding process that u know of?? : )

Nope, never heard of MOG welding. In Europe they have MAG welding, Metal Active Gas, which applies to CO2 and Oxygen used in gas mixes.

I was just on an Australian site and he referred to MOG as being flux cored (FCAW), i.e. no gas. But he didn't know what the 'OG' stood for.
