Stainless 304& 316

Mar 08, 2006 2 Replies

Will I be able to mig weld stainless 304 & 316 together. I am making a cooler holder/leaning post for a boat and the tubing is 304 and some of the other parts I need are made of 316 stainless. Thanks for any help...have never welded stainless before. I have a Lincoln Pro Mig 140 with 100% argon gas.

They definately sell stainless wire for mig welding.

You could also silver braze it if the joints can be designed as lap joints.

See this link, Lincoln recommends a tri mix gas
