Another great fly in at Bomber Field was held for the fifteenth year in a row. Pilots from all parts of the country showed up bringing some very impressive planes. One group flew in from Australia just to see the event. Weather didn't cooperate Sunday but Friday and Saturday sure had lots of heavy iron in the air. The count was stopped Friday at 300 planes and more came Saturday. Highlights in the big multis ranged from BB Webers TU-95 Bear 21.5 span now sporting 4 new Laser 2.4s to a 161" B-25 Mitchell with two DA-100s powering it thru some smoking low passes. The B-17 flyers came from all around the country and would have as many as 5 in the air at one time. Stuka and P-47 flyers also managed to get like numbers up for some spectacular flying. As always a ton of Corsairs and lots of Mustangs put on a great show including one that tried some 3-d type manuevers. Some great flying Bearcats there this year including a very hot Rare Bear. Lots of seldom seen stuff like a Douglas B-19 and a Douglas Devastator, a nice TBM, some German twin engine fighters, Messerschmidts, Heinkels, Dornier, And FockWulfs. A 50% GEE BEE R-1 drew lots of attention from everyone. Flawless finish and
92 lbs being pulled around with a 3W-240 twin. Owner didn't have his waiver so he flew it at another field. Only saw two real crashes, a BF-109 and a Skyraider both from pilot error. This is one of the few events where a G-62 can look like a 40 size powerplant. With some of the things that are under construction, next year should be even more impressive.- posted
