Am finishing a scratch built PT 19. Wing span is 89", weight about 22 lbs. I am going to use a G 38 gas engine. Will this be big enough ?

A plane that big could easily carry a bigger engine, but doesn't "need" it to get off the ground.
If you need noseweight, you might consider putting in a bigger engine.
One drawback: you might not be able to prop the bigger engine to get all the power out of it anyway.
