One _could_ fly single channel (rudder only - R/O) with considerable control, BTDT. There is a technique to it. Adding throttle control adds a whole new dimension.

With rudder control, the plane tends to dip its nose and pick up speed, varying with the amount of rudder given. Because of engine torque, turning one way will be more sensitive than the other.

Small rudder input, the plane holds altitude while turning. More, and it loses altitude and gains speed. Full, it goes into a spiral dive.

With a mild gain in speed, one made an S-turn and it was back to normal climbing speed. Full rudder was used for stunts.

A properly trimmed R/O plane could loop and barrel roll. Some do one better than the other.

Loops, barrel rolls, recognisable Cuban-8, S-turns, Immelman are all possible with R/O.

I've surprised club members how well one can control a plane only using rudder and throttle. I got where I could put a deadstick airplane using R/O within a step of two of me. You learn how to judge wind and sink rate with R/O.

However, do be aware that a guitar amplifier is not a hifi ampligier, it does not 'reproduce'

it is merely the replacement for the soundbox of an acoustic guitar.

You do not build acoustic guitars out of concrete and fill them with acoustic wool to dampen resonances...

They aren't worth that much actually.

The first receiver I built that worked...stopped working when I left it on the window sill in the sun.

Understanding why started me in a career in electronics. And also made me realise thet the so called 'experts' who wrote for magazines often knew less about it than an educated 13 year old.

FETS and valves are voltage controlled, bipolar transistors are current controlled, however all of them have a sufficiently high output impedance to be considered 'current' devices.

Its a piece of cake to make a fiairly broadband 5 watt transmitter..

its not THAT bad if your transmitter has the power.

Supoer regens are still used in indoor flying because they are very very simple.

Too bad you couldn't have been around and equally sharp in the 1950s. You could have made vacuum tubes sound like transistors. You would be more famous and even richer now.

No, it isn't! ...says the acoustic guitar player. It is to make an acoustic guitar sound exactly like it does acoustically but only louder. This is not easy to do, but PUTW transducers placed just behind the bridge plate (on many flat tops) does a good approximation of it.

And you do not want the amp to shift resonances, add fuzz, reverb, flange, etc. Says the acoustic guitar player.

A matched pair of new 6L6s are $30, and I have ten pairs of these and about as many 6V6s, plus some other really serious jugs. It adds up. I have enough in tubes to buy another acoustic guitar. (I found a place to put another one last night.)

I didn't desin my amps for acoustic guitar players. I had to add life an interest to deadly dull instruments like Les Pauls.

Oh yes you do. And electric guitar is not an instrument by itself..those additions are what it uses to simulate all the clever things and acoustic player does with his hands..

Madness. Get one good early stratocaster, and I'll build you an amp that clapton or hendrix would have died for.

Gimme enough time and a DSP, and I will make an amp that makes the strat sound just like an acoustic guitar too..:-)

I grew up with radio...I mean Radio, not r/c, and I marveled at the pleasure I could get from the old programs, and I had a phonograph and a bunch of 78s.

I figured that if I could ever be smart enough to understand how those two things worked, I would be smart enough to understand how everything worked. I started reading...a friend gave me an old copy of a Ham Manual.

I did learn how they worked and when a high school sophomore, I was designing and building guitar and phonograph amps. (And scaring class mates with a Van de Graaff generator 8' tall.) One day, I discovered Heathkit and my life was then fixed in a single direction.

I did try to learn everything and thought I could...until I got to thermodynamics and radio wave propagation. I decided to rely on others for the former and a Smith circular slide rule for the latter.

Well, if you had left a ten-dollar bill on the window sill in the sun, and seen that it disappeared, you might have become a banker...or thief. During the depression a lot of folks thought they were near the same thing.

I am of the same opinion too having been involved in some depth with them.

Only one bank is licensed to print money, but the rest are simply a monopoly of legalised theft.

Trying to outwit them in the markets is my life's work these days..;-)

Very true. Indoors would probably be the best venue of the OP (Earl Partridge) to try his vintage rig. I was referrin' to a typical outdoors flying environment with the "Model T on the freeway" analogy.

I built a regen shortwave receiver back in the '60s using a

12AU7. Afterwards, I opted for the deluxe Graymark shortwave kit that used a 12AU7 and 50L6 (plus 35W4 power supply rectifier). There were variants of this twin triode, 12AV7, 12AX7, etc. They varied a little in mu.

I read something about a Russian replacement Sovtek 6922 and a PCI audio card that used it to give the sound warmth.
