Car Runs Into Myrtle Beach Business

By SCOTT LEAMON WBTW News 13

A Myrtle Beach hobby shop has a new, unwelcome entrance.

A gash in the business' wall measures about four feet high, and around four feet wide, roughly the same dimensions as the car that hit it.

Police say a drowsy driver did thousands of dollars in damages to the business early Saturday morning.

The side wall of Ed's Hobby Shop, on Main Street, caved in after a woman ran into it with her car around 7 AM.

Police say the woman was asleep at the wheel. Her airbag deployed, but she suffered only minor injuries.

Investigators say she was not charged in the incident.

The hobby shop's owner says the accident did some sizeable damage to the interior of the business as well.

He says he may not be able to re-open until the middle of next week.

This accident comes only days after a North Carolina truck driver died in an accident on Highway 17, near Colonial Mall.

State troopers speculate the accident, which happened last Thursday morning, was also caused when the truck's driver might have been asleep behind the wheel.

henry's answer machine says he wont be open until further notice!

Look up Ed's Hobby Shop while there. Walking distance from the Pavilion. > > A little help, please.... > > > > My family and I will be in Myrtle Beach next week. Wow! We were wondering what happened 'cause when we called Ed's on Saturday afternoon, we got the message "Due to structural damage, Ed's Hobby Shop will be closed until further notice."

As for the truck driver, we were staying at the Fairfield Seawatch, about a mile from where it happened, and we lost power for about 1.5 hours that night.

I flew Saturday afternoon at the Long Beach club field. It's a great place to fly. A 150' x 650' dead flat runway, and almost unlimited overfly area. Thanks loads to Ed and the club member who invited us to come out and fly.

Hey Rob, are you in MB? Dr.1 Driver "There's a Hun in the sun!"
