It's not as hard as you might think.

When I first saw that video (a year ago or so), I figured I'd try it in RFG3. There's a few of the electric profile foamies that you can break a wing off in flight by diving at full throttle and pulling back on the stick.

So I take off, get some altitude, dive, break off a wing. And then knife edge around. Having only one wing makes the knife edge *easier* to do. With a little practice, I could easily come in for a landing and even end up on the landing gear. I could even take off again, still with only one wing, and do it again, and again.

Granted, I had some time to practice, but I consider myself a mediocre pilot and I'm certainly not into aerobatics. I'm guessing that under the right conditions (right plane, plenty of altitude) that most of us could land their plane reasonably well under those conditions if they kept their wits about them when it happened.

One time a few years ago I was doing an Immelman with my SuperStinker. As I rolled over on the top the upper wing departed, struts and all. I yelled out LANDING and did so at about warp 7. The folks watching me said that they would not have believed it if I had told them what had happened. The plane flew again.

My attitude is that as long as it is still flying and I have some control, I also have a responsibility to the community. It is clear that Bill has the same approach to flying, and he is good.
