How to remove glovebox plug 90 Cougar?

Hello. I have a 90 Mercury Cougar I need to remove the Glove box plug on. The old trunk lock stopped working and I obtained a new trunk and glovebox lock from another Cougar. The trunk lock is replaced but I can't figure out how to get the plug out of the glovebox. The glovebox lock is a wafer lock. I have the old key and the glovebox lock works fine I just want them on the same key. I have lots of tools so I don't think I'd have a problem if I just knew how it works. Any help would really be appreciated.

If you have a replacement lock that matches the new trunk lock why not justput the whole thing in, rather than just swapping plugs?  Also why botherlocking the glove box anyway?

Open the glove compartment. Look at the rear of the lock plug. There are two integral plastic pieces in the lock body that interlock with it. Release them both by pushing outward with a pick, small screwdriver etc. As memory serves to get one of them you will have to turn the plug about 45 degrees from the unlocked position because the tailpiece blocks it when all the way unlocked. The plug pushes out the BACK of the glove compartment. Push on it with gentle pressure and you should feel each release pop loose as you push on it when the second one pops the plug slides right out the back.

It's alot quicker to just pop out the plug.

But if the parts go flying, you might wish that you did not take the thingapart but just swapped it out.
