I'm looking at a diagram that shows a linkage that has a bolt that is offset from the centerline. What this linkage provides is an overcentering mechanism even when there is no angle between the two two halves of the linkage.
I am unclear as to how this works. The diagram shows a line from one outer pivot to the other, and this line is above the center point of the pivot bold.
I'm thinking that this line is essentially a thrust line that misses the center of the pivot bolt and therefore creates a moment around the center in proportion to the arm of a perpendicular line from the thrust line to the bolt center. Is the proper way to think about this mechanism?
