Google glitch in posting to RCM

I have tried to post a few messages recently and zilch. Usually when I start to reply after reading something via Google I have to sign in. Now it seems to be using a cookie to know who I am, but when I finish the message never appears. So this is both a test to see if this as a new thread gets posted, and a request for help if anyone understands whats happening.

The aim of untold millions is to be free to do exactly as they choose and for someone else to pay when things go wrong.

In the past few decades, a peculiar and distinctive psychology has emerged in England. Gone are the civility, sturdy independence, and admirable stoicism that carried the English through the war years . It has been replaced by a constant whine of excuses, complaints, and special pleading. The collapse of the British character has been as swift and complete as the collapse of British power.

Yeah, they're a popular target for DDOS attacks.

Maybe you should ask for your money back then.

Yeah, because you know, no other companies ever have technical problems. Like, you know, eBay, or Microsoft.

Once again you have an agenda. This time it seems to be an anti-google rant. Whatever.

Hm, google has worked for me throughout the day. Maybe it's something on your end. The Internet Storm Center also doesn't mention anything going on.

Maybe you should ask for your money back.

So subscribe to a real news server.

Not at all.

Exactly zero. You're bitching about a free service not meeting your expectations. Well, they're giving you more than you're paying for, so quitcherbitchin.

What of my comments isn't based on facts? The fact that the internet isn't perfect, the fact that you're complaining about something free, or the fact that you have other options which are better?

Oh, I am. Thanks for permission, though.

I don't think I've had any problem with Google in the past several months, certainly not a sustained problem - either web or Group searches. Maybe the problem really is on your end.

I read and post to newsgroups through a subscription newsfeed - it seems to miss a few posts once in a while but nothing serious. The same subscription provides me with space for a personal web site, so the annual fee is a little less onerous.

====================== Long term solution to your problem is to get a real news server account and a real news reader.

The major browsers IE NS & FF all have pretty good readers. A survey indicates that a large number of people on alt.machines.cnc and rec.crafts.metalworking use a specific newsreader program called free agent from Forte. You can download a freeware "lite" version of this.

If you have an ISP you may already have unet access try news.

Actually, the newsreader in IE is pretty marginal. The one in Netscape/Mozilla isn't particularly great either, though better. There's no newsreader in Mozilla Firefox, but Mozilla Thunderbird is sort of developed in concert with it.

At a quick count, ~700 out of the last 2446 posts to rcm were made with some version or other of a Forte product.

That's the one known as "Free Agent."

He's posting (apparently) from nocharge.net which doesn't seem to have a news server... (though there *is* a news.kallback.com which is affiliated in some way.)

At any rate, here's the breakdown of the newsreaders used to post here more than once: (Obviously the G2 number is somewhat excessive given the recent burpage.)

It's a website. Websites break. Deal with it. I deal with it, by not using their news service.

So stop being a cheap whiner, and subscribe to a news service. You don't like google. We got that. The solution is obvious. It's also obvious that you just want to whine and complain, just like it always is with you.

I do post from nocharge and use google to read the newsgroups. Usually it works well, sometimes there are problems. I was not complaining so much as trying to figure out where the problem originated and how could I get around it.

Nocharge is not available everywhere, but it the most economical way to access the internet. Well next to going to the library and using their computer and power. No Charge is exactly that. No cost. And it works as well as can be expected for a dial up connection. It seems faster to me than my son's DSL connection via Verizon.

Of course not. What part of "google's news interface sucks, and I pay for one that doesn't" hasn't sunk through to you? Oh, and accusing someone who disagrees with you of having a financial interest in doing so is a very lame tactic.

You don't know how Usenet actually works, do you.

Yes. Google news has problems. Not the least of which is it's abysmal quoting non-functions which are turned to "stupidly off" by default.

I still am, I assure you. Learn to quote, wouldya? Or, just get a real news provider and a decent program, and you won't even have to think about it. Ah, but then you wouldn't have something to complain about, which I'm guessing is your real goal, regardless of if you acknowledge it or not.
