Top posting vs. bottom posting

But, there is nothing more bothersome to then having to page through feet of previous thread, or even just a few inches, for a single line reply. Additionaly, if you are reading through a thread, you allready have the conept of the point, and if you need to read the point, then page down. Makes more sense to me.

So it's easier to read someone's reply, page down to what the person was replying to, page back up to read more of the reply, page BACK down to see what the reply was to, page UP to read more.....

Not hardly. Put the salient points of a reply where they belong, interspersed throughout, not lumped together at the top. If anyone still cared about Usenet courtesy (including me at times in some of my hurried moments), they would snip out what they weren't replying to. It's simple really...but obviously not simple enough...

Amen to that and having a news reader that understands the sig cut marks is a great help as well.

I know what the poster was replying to... I just read the previous message, and if I didn't know, then I can check the copy below the post. Personally, I don't delete a post or thread unless I have no desire to follow it. And if I do later decide to follow it, and I can quickly catch up through copies of the thread, then read on.....

But I agree too, that If one had time, please snip.

In my case I have the latest post on top and the rest in descending order.

I do try to clip, cut, "snip" the text of what/who I want to comment to. Saves space. It's there in the original posting for all to read.

There is nothing worse than following a bottom posted thread only to find that the next reply has been top posted and of course vice versa for a top posted thread. It ruins the ability to join a thread half way through and quickly scan the previous replies.

PITA!!!!! Doesn't matter if it's top or bottom posted......I do prefer top because I can see if the reply is worth reading or just skipping past on first glance. But when you have replies to several points......

My usenet pet peeves are newsreaders or users that set their replies to NOT use a carrot thing > in front of the text. Either that or they take the time to maually remove them for some strange reason. They mix their reply in with the earlier messages and it can make things a real challenge to follwo sometimes.

Extra large ASCII pictograms in the sig line get old after a while too.
