Does anybody have experience with steel roofing? I'm in need of a new roof and very curious about standing seam steel, preferably the concealed-fastener snaplock type.
The roofers I've spoken with so far seem hesitant to offer it. I'm guessing it's simply because they're unfamiliar.
If there's more to the story it would be helpful to know.

Can't help you with the standing seam type , but I like our ribbed steel roofing . They make screws painted to match and they don't stand out . Ours is 10-14 years old (house built in stages) and still looks as good as new - or would if I got up there and scrubbed it .

----------------------------- I have plenty of experience with the corrugated metal roofing HD and Lowes's sells installed on sheds, none with standing seam on a house. For me the deal killers are being able to walk and sit on it and snow+ice sliding onto my head. After experienced friends showed me how I replaced my asphalt shingles myself, with a hammer.
Sorry, the only real commercial steel roofing I have worked on was overlapped with a sealant/adhesive, and shot thru with rubber washered drill point screws. Didn't leak. Still standing 20 and 35 years later respectively. I don't count cheap sheds and awnings from China.
They have withstood sustained winds over 60mph with gusts to 75-80.
