My Abene came home!!

The guy who has been storing my Abene mill just left, after bringing my (now a bit rusty in places) Abene mill that I nearly lost in the Gossco ratfuck in April.

Now all I got to do is take the Larios horzontal, the 618 surface grinder, the KO Lee B300 and two work benches back out of the shop, after moving the Victor copy of the DV-59 (anyone want to buy it?) out of the path, setting it, leveling it up, wiring it to the rotary converter, then moving everything else back into the shop.

hummm...er....ah...shit...sigh..thats a lot of work, isnt it....damnit...nap time......zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Been playing that game all day. At one point I was LOL saying where is a video camera when you need one. I had the swiveling crane lifting

1/3 of the weight of the planer, a wench attached to the back of one vehicle and then to the planer, another vehicle up to the back of the first vehicle to power the wench, and overloading both while the machine vibrated slowly across the shop. Moved it solo though. Before all of this the first vehicle was in the shop for 5 days jacked up 18" to hunt down a profound electrical short. A heat diffuser rusted off the exhaust manifold and dropped down into the frame components and then sawed into the main power for the alternator.

Got a new toy and need to back a large trailer into the shop, not sure how it is gonna be lifted, not from the hoist I have now.

I'd consider coming back down and swap some stuff for helping out. Oh, say, sometime mid-fall when lead wheel weights stop melting off the rims. And yeah, I'm aware it was due to get 4-5 degrees hotter a couple days after I was there...

What was the wench doing on the back of the vehicle? Should have put her to work doing something useful... (grinning, ducking and running...)

Jon, you are more than welcome here any time of the year. Seriously and without a condition.

If you happen to scoop up some wheelweights on your way back down...I can always use them. Bullet casting isnt a lot of fun this time of the year..chuckle. Its not a lot of fun in mid winter either..but..its much much better....chuckle.

It did get a bit hotter..about 10 degrees for a couple days and then cooled off to 98-99F.

Its only 99F right now at 1:30 in the afternoon, according to the thermometer out on the front porch. The one 10' back in the shade...shrug.

My Abene is still sitting out in front of the house on the street. Im not terribly concerned about it being stolen...my 4000 lb forklift moved it..but under a bit of protest. Not a lot of sneak thieves around here that can move that much metal. But..Ive got to get everything started and get it in, before the cops give me a ticket. Well..they actually wont...they all know me too well..but its the idea....shrug...lol

After I posted that yesterday..I went and took an hours nap..and woke up

5 hours later. The dogs and cats had decided I was snuggle comfy and I woke up covered with 4 dogs and 3 cats. So after unpiling them..I went back outside and did some Stuff in the shop for a few hours. Then went back to bed..digging in under the dogs and cats, who had apparently never left the bed. I woke up at 12:30 this afternoon and feel pretty damned good. So Id better figure out what Im going to do with that mill and start on getting it done.

Im starting to think..maybe..somewhat..a tiny bit..that Ive got too many machines in my shop. But only a wee amount.

Sigh....yawn....

Hoowee, well that'd be a good primer for Australian summers. But it do get cold there too, been hovering right around freezing lately where the wife lives.

Not too many machines, just not enough shop! Well, ya do have more welders than any place I've ever worked besides NASA...

I suspect Ive got one too many mills or something..I seem to be having some difficulties in figuring out where to put the 618 surface grinder....damnit

Anyone want a rather NICE Ramco 6x18 surface grinder with a very nice full sized electromagnetic chuck..thats 6x18" plus coolant pump and tank.

Ill trade it for a nice smaller surface grinder.

Anyone?

Wenches are great ,I used mine last Thursday to help lift my new tablesaw into its' mobile base. She bowed under the weight a bit but a couple of lashes with the stock whip brought a burst of strength.

I used one, weighed around 120 pounds, to sit on the end of a 2 x 12 to lift the engine into my old VW.

Years ago I clipped an ad from the local paper describing a 2000lb Worn wench for sale. (Should read Warn winch) Lost it or I'd scan and post.

I'd think one would be lucky to to -give away- a one ton worn wench. For that matter, who'd want to be the one that wore her out? lol!

It is like clamps in wood working. You start out with not enough clamps, then not enough projects, then not enough storage space.

Well ... tempting -- but I suspect that the shipping across the country would be a killer on that. What I have is a little 4x8 Sanford surface grinder on a bench.

And I'm not sure where *I* could put one which sat on the floor. The shop is a full 2-car garage -- with no cars in it. :-)

Enjoy, DoN.

The Sanford is a bit small for my needs, but thats for considering it

I always wondered why they named workshops "garages".....

Well ... when it was first built, we had two cars in it.

But -- when it was built, I had them put in a couple of 240 VAC outlets in anticipation of future needs. One is a 20A one, and the other is a 30A one.

Enjoy, DoN.

To make the wives think they had a place to keep the car out of sight, of course. :)
