I have to purchase a blood pressure monitor for my wife. She has tobe able to use it by herself. There is a wide variety of styles (andprices)Im looking for some input as to the best bang for my buck. Ebay isprobably where I will purchase one, but there are so many types I dontquite know where to start. Ive already done a bit of websearching, andread the few reviews I could find, but none were particularly helpful,nor was there a free "consumers report" site with any informationother than sales propaganda.Anyone have any recommendations? Are the automatic wrist typesaccurate enough for home use? Well, my wife has an old Norelco automatic cuff that she's had foryears and it still works fine. One just puts on the cuff and hits abutton. It does the rest.She says to avoid the wrist cuff ones. Hospital grade wrist cuffs areokay but as of last time she checked, a couple weeks ago, doctors andnurses were saying the ones available at most retail stores werenotoriously inaccurate in their opinions. She inquired with docs andnurses she knows because a friend has had problems and needed topurchase a monitor. And mentioned getting a wrist cuff type.That's as much as I know. She has hers as part of the standardmedical kit she maintains around the house. And as it still worksfine, she's not had to replace it. So we're not familiar with morerecently made monitors. But I thought I'd mention the warning aboutthe cheap retail wrist cuffs.Bob

Get the doctor to use your monitor first, he or she should not be under stress that could affect the reading and compare the reading with his equipment. Do NOT use mercury based systems, they are very much out of date and contain mercury for crying out loud. They are banned in the UK for this reason.

I have a ten year old $35 Marshall 80 digital Sphygmomanometer for home use that is as accurate as the 14 Lumishygs that I have in the office (they cost a lost more than $35). Still have two mercury filled ones too. They work great and are used to calibrate all the others.
