OT: Mogul base flood light fixtures

Sorry about the OT bit at least it is not political.

For several years I have been looking with no success for a mogul base reflector fixture. Anyone have a lead on the old round deep parabolic porcelain type that was once a standard fixture on barns and warehouses?

Do you mean the green and white porcelain shades?

I probably have a couple out back.

I know I've got the shade. Not sure about the rest of the hardware.

Hi Glenn, I was looking for the same sort of fixture awhile back and ended up building one. I used a plain porcelain base and the largest stainless steel mixing bowl I could find. The bowl is not quite 'optically correct', but it does the job. Regards, Jim

I needed a couple of these several years ago for a potting shed I had built for a customer. I ended up making my own. I spun the shades on my Unimat 3 - OH! I didn't mention that this was 1:12 scale. It was my first attempt at spinning, I started with aluminium pop can stock but the built in curvature messed things up so I changed over to the concave bottom of the can and it turned out exactly as I had hoped. It was only when I tried to trim the edges that I discovered that I had selected steel cans. anyhow, a bit of paint, epoxied in "pea bulb" sockets, and the customer was extremely happy. I still have the form, live centre and spoon shaped forming tool, so perhaps one day I will see how aluminium spins. Gerry :-)} London, Canada

THAT is exactly what I am talking about! I don't care what condition the shells are in as long as they are not to badly dented up.

There has been one on the eve of our house for years and that 250W incandecent bulb just puts out a much more pleasing light than the halogens I have everywhere else.

I got 4 matching green-outside/white-inside shades a few years ago when they got scrapped out of an old bar in Pioneer Square. It isn't too hard to find the shades, but it is *real* hard to find the lamp holder (socket) to fit in it. I finally found an old guy in a lamp part store that shook his head and said he knew exactly what I needed, they used to sell them for many years but he hasn't seen one for twenty years.

I did get something sort of close, and may try to cobble them together someday. My shades are meant for use with ceramic sockets that threads into them. I can post pix if requested. I would love to find a source for the actual sockets. I've been scrounging nearly ever since but no luck so far ..

Check with Leviton. My catalog shows about a dozen different ceramic mogul base sockets. Or send a photo and I'll see if anything looks close.

Grant - picture would be nice. Might have a few second hand types with Edison bulbs in them :-)

Would consider

Bummer dude - Nope.

Those do look like some seen. I think the National park system uses them and other park likes. e.g. private rail roads.... Might do a search on various farm and logging types. I have some catalogs - will look.

Oh well.
