OVERSPEED Onan DJE generator definitely overspeeds

I just made a little electrical panel for it with two outlets on opposite legs of 220V. I plugged in the Kill-a-watt meter and determined the frequency. It was, much to my horror, 74-76 Hz. And not

60 as desired.

Assuming 75 hz frequency, it corresponds to 2,250 RPM.

So, the overspeed button is right and the genset overspeeds.

Something else is wrong, I would like to know what.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the governor, you'll need to figure out how it's supposed to work, and what's keeping it from performing it's desired function. Didn't you say you had a manual? Given the amount of rust in some of those pictures, I'd take the entire governor apart, clean and derust all the bits, and reassemble it.

Agreed.

Maybe it's time to contact ONAN. Better that than make a fatal mistake that would cost you your investment.

It works now (see my separate post announcing that). The governor was working flawlessly, but its adjustment nuts was wrong, plus the solenoid was stuck somewhat. Everything is fine and dandy now.

Good point, but I do try to be careful:)

With the help of these newsgroups, and some luck, the generator is running perfectly now, at least I do not see any problems.
