Hey Jim and Iggy,

I'm in total agreement with Jim. I strongly believe that so many fatalities in small GA aircraft are completely un-necessary. They are caused by the same sort of thinking that causes many serious car accidents. Just trying to avoid a $100 scratch gets you killed!! Dog/cat/skunk runs out into the roadway, and driver swerves! STUPID!! (Now, maybe if it's larger, like a cow or a deer or a moose....... but even then better to duck and jam on the brakes than steer into oncoming traffic or over a cliff.)

Unless a flight surface or control element is lost or damaged beyond the ability to maintain controlled flight, stick the friggin nose down and maintain minimum flight speed, and look for the best place to CRASH!! Not the best place to keep from scratching the damn plane! If both that thought and mine coincide, fantastic! But don't make your first thought how to avoid an insurance claim or increase.

ps...Iggy has shown us he has the skills and determination required to BUILD a homebuilt. Maybe not to fly it (yet), but he could certainly make one. Just don't also try to design it, or change the design in a known good project/kit plane, or take/make any short-cuts. There's lots of help through any chapter of the EAA.

You live close enough. Go to the EAA flyin this summer and look around. Even if you never desire to build a plane, attending some workshops would be a blast.
