Stainless Steel Drawer/Door Pulls

Over the last six months, I put my hobbies of metalworking and woodworking to good use while remodelling my kitchen.

The commercial stainless steel pulls I liked were way out of my price range (~ $2600) so I figured it would be a fun project to make them. Well, it turned out to be more tedious than anything, but learned a lot and put my ancient Seneca Star lathe to good use (included is a picture of the lathe).

I used 1/2" 303 stainless for the handles and 3/8" for the standoffs (threaded for 8-32 screws). The total cost for materials was around $300.

About the cabinets: I made the cabinets using rift-sawn Red Oak for the frames and quarter-sawn ply for the panels and cases.

Nicely done. What's the countertop material?

Thanks.

The countertop is black granite that goes by Absolute Black. I had initially wanted soapstone, but the local importer was playing games and selling all the good pieces to designers outside business hours (or at least that is my guess as I went 3 months in a row on the day new shipments arrived and everything nice was sold when I'd walk in the door at 9am. And they supposedly didn't take orders/holds).

But I'm happy with the granite, though it is hard to keep clean with a wife that likes to cut brie on the countertops.

Very nice job.

Very nice. You might get a kick out of the comparison to the hardware I made several years ago. There must be about 30 handles, no two are alike. Everyone in the family got to design a few.

Aaron,

Very Nice!

Ned,

I can't help but wonder if opportunity to leave messages around the house in Morse was missed there! :-)

I had to DAGS the ref, as I was not familiar with it.

I would advise AGAINST a list of that nature. :-)

I was thinking more like labelling the cupboards with appropriate (or not) labels or instructions.

Stuff like: Close me. Use First. Good food. No cookies for you. All Mine.

I'm sure you could think of a few like that that would fit.
