tips on removing varispeed BP motor?

Well, I have my "new" Bridgeport in the shop, and I need to send the motor out to be rewound from 550 volt to 220 volt. Any thing I should look out for when I remove the motor? This is a varispeed, circa 1975, so what should I expect with the pullys, and so on?

Cheers, brian

How much can you get the motor rewound for, and how much can you pick up a surplus multitap transformer? Around this neck of the woods, they are around $25-75 in good condition.

Hi Gunner, I can get the motor rewound for $200 cdn, transformers are not readily available. Standard commercial power here is 575 volt three phase, and the usual transformers are 575 volt primary, 220/110 volt secondary to run the lights in the building, etc. Also, local building codes for residential don't allow 575 volt, so if I put this in my shop I may be in trouble with insurance, etc.

Any tips on re&reing a varispeed motor?

thanks, Brian
