Yet another odd metal sighting today

Some military 6.5 mm Mauser ammunition. I would not shoot it, as I hear the corrosion from the old powder eats up everything. The lady had three boxes. Then she had some .30 cal Soft nose shells in a .270 box, and lastly a box and a half of actually correctly labeled .250 Roberts. She wanted $20 for the lot, but I passed. Really old stuff. The Roberts had the old price labels on them. $5.12 so I know they had to be old.

Those 6.5 must stick out of the brass for an inch or so, and have just that rounded nose.

I used WWII era 7.62x54 ammunition in my Mosin Nagant. One out of five rounds was a dud, but nothing terrible happened. For the price and intended use it worked out OK.

6.5 Mauser? Swedish? or 6.5x57? Some rare stuff if it was x57

Stuff is safe enough to shoot. You just need to clean the barrel within a day or so of firing it, or it could start to rust a little bit..the longer you wait..the worse the rust gets. It was the result of them using corrosive materials in the primers. America did the same thing until the 20s-30s in many cartridges.

Ive fired miltary ammo that was loaded in 1915, with no issues. Its not the age, it is how its been stored. And even then..unless its been wet a bunch of times..it will generally fire fine.

Hell..Ive fired ammo that was made in 1883, that went Bang just fine.

It depends a lot on which arsenel made the stuff..and how it was stored.

See my previous post about my firing WW1 ammo with no misfires

Corrosive? Just have to wash the barrel after you're done. And, the other wildcat ammo may have been really valuable to someone who has a rifle in that caliber. Mighta been an excellent buy.
