another gas bottle question !

hi all

my girlfreinds dad is moving house , and he's lent me(for storag hopefully donated) a porta pack oxy accetaline set . i believe they'v been stored for a few years . i'm buzzing ! the question is how do get them refilled ? ive used full sized bottles regularly in the pas whilst employed in engineering and we used to have the boc van come t the factory and swap them . i'm led to believe its ok to use the port pack size in a home workshop but am told i'd need a lease contract t refill them ? the first job for them is to make some tipped turnin tools which wont empty them but ....... well once you get started yo all know how it is ! :D can anyone indicate the costs involved in refilling , wher to go ie is it only boc that will handle boc bottles ? and would i nee any paperwork to do this as the set has no documentation ! any advic is appreciated

I think you will need to go to a BOC site to get them refilled and you will need an account which is related to the current rental agreement with BOC for the bottles. If your girlfriends dad has one then you could still use that I guess with his agreement.

Current BOC charges are E size Oxygen £8.10 K size acetylene £21 .60 plus fixed charges £9.95 all plus VAT Not sure if these are portapack they are the smallest sizes.

You can rent monthly, annually three yearly or 5 yearly but I am not sure of the minimum contract term below a year. BOC say monthly is only appropriate to larger holdings.

Hope this helps.

I'm nor so sure where you stand with portapak cylinders. When BOC first started doing these you actually purchased the cylinders, and then got them filled at any BOC centre. I think they stopped doing this and went over to renting them.

Best to phone your local BOC service centre and ask them what the score is. The worst that could happen is that they take the old cylinders off you and rent you some new ones.

who actually hires out the bottles ? i'm thinking ive seen bottles at

local hire center in the past , so perhaps it's possible to " hire the gear and return it empty . so paying the gas price, and hir charges for a " weekend " ??? hmmmm theres hope then ! 8-

Damn. I knew I should have loaded up that L size oxygen bottle and its acetylene bottle I saw lying idle in their trolley at the Washwood Heath works. They'd been in the same place for over a year the final time I went to the works.

Maybe you could find a friend with a BOC account and he could do an exchange for you ??? ( This could account for my having full bottles :-) )
