Anyone here do a bit of casting?

Question

Hi. I may need a small casting job doing. I'm not sure yet. I've got something called a water rower and it seems to me that the lock plate is not designed to do the job it was meant to do.

If you go here you will see the lock plate (not in detail) and the footpad set that it is suppossed to lock into position:

When you press the lock button, that lock plate (just below the cover plate) depresses downwards releasing the footpads (WRP-700). Of course there are little protrusions in the lock plate which engage into holes on the footpads.

That lock plate is about 3" x 2", plastic, and I think it probably needs to be cast in metal with a set of higher protrusions than the original. Then it should lock the footpads properly.

I may find a solution which won't require me to make a new lock plate, but I honestly don't know what else will cure the defect.

Anyone here any idea of roughly how much it might cost me to have a casting made? Thanks.

original.Actually, I might have found a simpler solution and maybe I can get awayfrom making another lock plate.  When that assembly is bolted to thefootboard it bends towards the footboard which takes the lock plate withit, thus reducing the clearance of the protrusuions on the lock platefrom the footboard. I think the solution is to place metal collarsaround the bolts that fix the asembly to the footboard, so that there isno gap for the assembly to bend into where the bolts are tightened.Basically, there is a slight design fault, and I think collars aroundfixing bolts ought to correct it.
