Centec 2A

Jun 06, 2006 35 Replies

Matt,

If you can live with the wider table, there's a 2B on Ebay - No.7627023440 The BIN price is £1250 but it is + VAT so that might be a consideration if you are not VAT registered. Its got 2MT, power feed, and the bl**dy Z feed handle at the front :-) Looks like buyer collect unless you are local.

Jim.

And just to follow up on my own message, I found the advertiser who had one on theirs adverts for years - it was Home and Workshop Machinery and it was a 2B. Their recent adverts did not mention the

2B, and checking their web site shows that it has been sold.

Jim.

Jim,

How didyou do that?

WILL save it this time. That 2B looks nice but maybe Matt could knock the seller down and no pay the VAT as well. ;-) Ro

Thanks guys, it's not the size, but the weight that worries me about th

2B. Getting that up to the second floor looks too dangerous to me. I'l keep my open eyes peeled for a little 2A.

Cheers, Mat

Not quite a Centec, but this one would get up the stairs a bit easier.

E-bay no. 7627454958

Matt,

Have you seen this one? A bit pricey but he does have an offer a well as buy now. I paid far less than 1K for one on the big maker stand with power feed to the table.

Looks OK, but I can't see its X quick feed handle on the table.

Jim.

Thanks guys

Peter - I think this one is a bit too small/basic, but appreciate th tip

Roy - I can't access ebay very easily at work: have to go via ebay.ca Looks a reasonable if pricey machine. I'll contact the seller thi evening.

Jim - just what I was thinking, but since this is also a horizonta milling attachment I assume there is a box of bits to go with it, whic are out of the picture. The lack of a proper table is annoying.

Seller doesn't say if it is 2MT or not, but after last weekend's fiasc I'll go and examine this one before committing. I work in London so no much of a journey.

Thanks again everyone

Mat

There's a Centec 2A advertised in the just-published July issue of Eng in Miniature. It looks like a private sale " Centec 2A milling machine on steel cabinet, combination overarm, swivel head, autolock imperial/metric collets, slotting attachment : £950 o.n.o Tel 01903

770408

I think that area code is in West Sussex. Good hunting! --

Chris Edwards (in deepest Dorset) "....there *must* be an easier way!"

Matt,

Chris's one looks a better bet, especially the price and being on stand as opposed to bench mounted. It's somewhere between Worthing an Arundel, I think. Best of luck, Ro

Roy,

Might want to check that it has the quill head and not the earlier non-quill head.

Jim.

Matt,

Any news on the Worthing Centec?

HI Roy

All set to go to Angmering station yesterday, gave the chap a call an he said he'd changed his mind and didn't want to sell after all Strange, after all the bother of advertising in EIM.

:-(

Thanks for the tip though, cheers

I know you've all had sleepless nights wondering if I ever got my Cente

2A. Well, I finally got one, and it's got the right quill and it's universal machine - ie the table swivels.

I've also bought the 4" raising block from Tony Griffiths - not cheap but very well made and it transforms the mill.

Only thing I want now is a Centec power drive for the table - anyon got one they could part with for real money?

Cheers

Mat
