Thanks guys. A friend of mine has a small plastic one about 4", cost him a couple of quid...plastic and steel blades but cant remember where he got it from....You can get combo types for about £15 and as a poster has already mentioned, an engineers grade for £6. Be nice to find the 'couple of quid' one though. John.

As an engineer surely it is well within your capability to make one. The angle of the 'V' is not critical - just the alignment of the 'blade'.

You could try places like Focus or even Wilkinson of course.

Remember your 'O' Level maths - the angle subtended at the centre is twice the angle subtended at the circumference.

Take a right angle and put it at the circumference. Mark off where the two sides cross the circle - this will be a diameter.

Move the point of the right angle round by quarter of a circle and repeat. You now have two diameters. Where they intersect is the centre.

Or, if you want accuracy to suit your standard of machining....

Set up in 4-jaw chuck and use centre drill from tailstock.
