Drive belts Help

Gentlemen,

I recently bought a second hand but in good order and also never used in anger lathe from my old company. Its a Machine Mart CL500 with the milling unit on the head stock, this afternoon I have been trying to set it up to cut a thread except for one problem. To get the correct speeds you can go from the motor to the spindle with one belt or from the motor to an idler then to the spindle, my problem is that I have 3 x belts of which two are the same and it is apparent that one of the pair should be slightly different as there is not enough adjustment to allow the belt from the idler to the spindle to fit. Can anybody tell me what size this belt should be please. All info I have is in Chinese and what numbers I can see make no sense.

Thank you,

Martin P

I think most of these Chinese lathes are badged under several guises. Have you tried Chester, Warco and similar outfits?

Warco WMT 500 or Chester Model B super/ centurion look similar according to the small pictures in the ads in MEW

I understand Warco to be helpful but no knowledge of Chester.

Belts are selected in terms of their peripheral length either in inches, tenths of inches or millimeters often with a Z for 3/8" wide belts and A for 1/2 "

Good luck

Gentlemen,

Thank you Bob for that, I forgot to add that as a machine tool fitter I understand the belt specs but am being a little lazy and hoping somebody may have the sizes to hand :-))

I don't know if this is the same model as yours but I have found that the manuals for the US equivalents of the Chinese machine tools are available on-line. Here is the manual for a Grizzly lathe/mill. If it's not the right one try searching for "lathe mill" and see if you can turn up one with the same spec as yours to get a US name, then search for that name.

Hi Martin,

Why not give Machine Mart a call (

)

Our Portsmouth branch has all the belts and other spares available for this machine ( some to order ) and the staff there were very helpful.

John,

First job tommorrow, in mean time have down loaded the manual that Don found, it is almost the same machine until you come to the belts and pulley's, the layout is different. Thanks for help and suggestions.
