INT 40 to 2MT Adapter

Does anyone know where I could obtain an INT 40 to 2MT adapter. I have a lot of lathe tooling (e.g. collet chuck, boring head)with 3/8 BSW threads for a drawbar.

I have a standard one which takes tanged 2 MT drills, and has a 16mm drawbar thread (originally it had a pull-stud in it which I have removed, but the problem is that this won't take a 3/8 drawbar as it won't pass through the tang part of the adapter. The slot for the tang is too small to take the 3/8 diameter.

I had thought of grinding out the tang slot in the adapter to pass 3/8

- has anyone else tried to do this? - Or is there a better way to achieve the same result?

Thanks

Tony

than on the INT40 adapter; that's the way I would want to do it. My adapter doesn't have a tang slot so I can pass the drawbar through it, but I don't know who made it (got it for a good price via ebay). Martin

I thought we had one, but it is a No1 :-((

The drawbar hole does not go down into the slot for the tang removal tool, so if you came across one you would have to machine it out anyway.

drawbar right through to the 2MT. I may work up the enthusiasm to go out to the garage and look later. Martin

OK, I've taken a look and the adapter is bored about 9mm through below the

5/8" thread, it looks original. Unfortunately the only marking on it is a previous owners initials, no manufacturer or part number. If it's any help, I bought it from 'barneys-lot' on ebay, he always seems to have a long list of tooling for sale, so it may be worth keeping an eye on his auctions. Martin.

Could you make up a top hat bush that is 3/8" male on the outside and

1/4" female on the inside and use a length of studding as your drawbar? I have done a similar thing (but M6) for my milling chuck and it works well.

Martin is correct, I need the drawbar to be 3/8 BSW and pass all the way through the adapter. I think the prolem for me will be trying to grind out the rectangular tang hole to let the 3/8 rod pass right through, and getting it concentric.

If anyone has or knows where I can obtain one of these adapters, I would be very interested.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Would just chopping the small end off sufficient to get your drawbar through leave it too short? You could do that with a cutting disc in an angle grinder (ruff, ruff)

I have a 40 to 30 adapter which is like this, though mine was made short.

I think it would be too short - the start of the slot for the tapereddrift to allow you to remove the tang of the MT device is only about 15mm from the base of the INT taper. Therefore, I think I would need to cut off about 90% of the top of the INT 40 taper, so this wouldn't be workable.
