Large diameter cast iron

I need to make some cast iron clutch linings. Anyone know of a source of 8 1/2" diameter cast iron bar - I only need two discs about 1/4" thick, sort of "thin slices" from a bar. Suggestions welcomed

Thanks

I once went on a tour of the Baxi foundry and saw them making brake discs (Fiesta I think).

Would they do?

I've bought 8" or thereabouts from Multi-Metals in Salford

ISTR it was about the biggest they kept at the time. There's another frim (Macreadys??) somewhere North of Manchester which I believe specialises in stuff like that, but I've never dealt with them & no idea whether they'll supply small amounts.

Weight lifting disks? You get them damned cheap from people who gave up wanting to look like Arnold. :-)

CAST IRON clutch linings?? Whatever for? You can't just drop in an odd remark like that without explaining! Anyway, if you really, really want cast iron, how about a piece of a manhole cover? There's a lump around here somewhere if you want to come and dig it out.... Keith

I used to get continuously cast bar from MJM Patterns and Castings Ltd in Brum, but since their web site seems to have disappeared I assume that they have too. They were complaining that industries were drying up all around when I got my last order from them.

Why did I bother replying...

Standard stuff for a factory sports Austin 7. The normal linings cause the driven plate to get too hot and warp - causing drag.

I think that Russell got it with Fiesta Mk 1 discs - 8.7 inches diameter - very easy to mount on a faceplate, and available for 6.75 each!
