Lightweight X Y table ?

I've just done some precision drilling (at least it's precision for me!), and what I really needed is one of those XY compound tables/vices so that I could move the workpiece precisely under the drill. The ones I've seen listed in the Clarke's catalogue (cross travel vices) weigh in at around

14kg. Seems a bit overkill for my applications. Can anyone suggest a lightweight version? My drilling is normally upto 4mm diam. in plastic or aluminium.

Many thanks for any suggestions - and how best to describe these devices.

They are called XY tables, or XY vices. Mostly they are tables only and you add a vice as appropriate - that way you can have a choice of vices.

Arc Euro Trade do some small ones, as do most of the usual suspects - but if you want something really smaller but a bit precision, Proxxon or Wolfcraft might be up your street.

High precision is also available, at a suitable price ...

Thanks for reminding me about Proxxon - I picked up their brochure at the recent model rail exhibition near Leamington Spa. Looks as though there's something there which would help.

But don't use UPS, use USPS if at all possible.

You will probably get hit for VAT plus charges as well.

Actually, if its big enough for your needs, it's a very nice piece of kit. I have one attached to their mini-drill for dealing with stuff smaller than about 3mm and it is excellent.
