Having carefully installed new Oilite bushes in the apron of my Myford ML7 lathe, I belatedly wonder if I should have impregnated them with oil first. Am I worrying unnecessarily? Will oil soak into them by capillary action?

From the state of the shaft on one that had been fitted by a previous owner, I would do what I did when replacing shaft and bushing. Which is to drill a small hole through the bushing to allow the oil directly onto the shaft.
