Sad to have to report the death of Tommy Bartlett, a long time member
of SM&EE who died recently at the age of 99.
Tommy was a very active member, one time Supervisor of the SM&EE
Workshop, and was always devising alterations and modifications to
make improvements. Numerous hints and tips by Tommy have featured in
Model Engineer and also the SM&EE Journal over the years. Up to about
the age of 92 he was to be seen arriving at Marshall House on his
bicycle having come most of the way from his (then) home in Farningham
by train. Laterly he moved to sheltered accomodation in Swanley, a
move that meant he no longer has his workshop which had been a great
source of joy to him.
Lack of workshop facilities didn't stop him 'getting involved' and I
know he was known to several on this list striking astute bargains !
