Steel stockholders around Glasgow

I'm after a largish quantity of steel for making a trailer; does anyone have any recommendations for an amateur-friendly stockholder who's competitive on price in the Glasgow/west central belt area? I've tended to either buy from scrappys or Metal Supermarket in the past, as I've only ever needed small quantities.

cheers, David

I would recommend Alexanders as well, probably the best in central Scotland. There`s Barclay Mathieson in Glasgow,Brown & Wilson in Forth,ASD everywhere and Lothian Steel in Bathgate. Alexanders would be my first choice if I didn`t have an account with Brown & Wilson. Remember to them, steel for a trailer is not a large quantity so don`t be disappointed if they don`t jump up and down with excitement. In fact if you could afford to buy from Metal Supermarkets you can afford to buy anywhere. That`s one dear outfit. Mark.

We often use our own suppliers to get hold of small quantities of steel, they have accounts already and can add it on to an order with no surcharge for the small amounts.

The other potential source is a scrap metal yard (not a car breakers) we have had good success with new material offcuts from one that we use, got 3 X 9ft lengths of 100mm X 100mm box with 10g wall recently for £1 a foot, cash.
