Cutting a solid via intersection with another solid?

In 2001 I am trying to figure out if it is possible to cut one part in an assembly with the intersection of another. I want to cut away one of the parts where the two of them intersect. Both have complex features that make it difficult to create a cut any other way.

Thanks in advance.

Try 'Edit>Component Operations>Cutout' while in assembly mode. This removes the common volume, similar to Boolean subtract.

If you were to experience a problem with this procedure failing, it will almost always be due to incompatible 'Accuracy' settings between the parent part and the external reference object for the Cut Out feature. Pro/ENGINEER will provide you with a suggested 'Accuracy' setting for one of the two part models in the message window. You can either set the named model to this suggested 'Relative Accuracy' setting, or just set both part models to have the exact same 'Absolute Accuracy' values. In order to utilize 'Absolute Accuracy', you must first set the config.pro option 'enable_absolute_accuracy' to a value of 'yes'.
