I have noticed that when ordering some gear motors such as those from Globe, than you can specify whether it is for 12vdc or 24vdc, with everything else being the same. What exactly is the difference in that case ? Is it just that the winding is built to take better advantage of the intended 12 or 24 vdc ?
With that in mind, if I come across some 24vdc motors on eBay or a garage sale, would running that motor at 12vdc be less efficient than if I ran the same motor that was factory configured for 12vdc ? What is the trade-off, typically, in such an instance ?
Is there typically anything that I could alter myself to make it more suited for 12vdc (or 24). ( When I ask this I am thinking about how some stepper motors can be wired as unipolar or bipolar, etc. )
Thanks ! JCD
