I want to build a robot

I always wanted to build a robot.

What do I need? I don't want to use crap like Lego MindStorm or such.

I'm also learning programming so it should be easy.

Contrary to what you might think, the Lego MindStorm stuff is not crap. It is actually one of the better places to start.

You might check out the VexPlorer. Or the Parallax BOEBot.

"Robot Building for Beginners" by David Cook is also a pretty good starter robot.

Start small, there is plenty of time to enlarge your robot as time goes on.

Really? I might give that a try.

Do you know what language it use?

Also, looking at lego website I don't understand what kit to buy, any hint?

It is not the only place to start, but it is a reasonable place to start. I recommend reading the Wikipedia article next:

There are several languages.

I think the Lego 8527 Mindstorms(r) NXT(r) Kit is what you *might* want. It sells in the US for $249.99 + tax + shipping.

The VexPlorer is another alternative (use Google) that has a different approach. The Parallax stuff is pretty good as well.

IMNSHO the trouble with the Lego system is a lack of adequate manuals; either that or the set I got just didn't have one. I opted for Parallax BOEbot in the end a got a *lot* further and faster.
