Thumbed thru Robot Builder's Bonanza edition 3 today

I thumbed thru the 3rd edition of Robot Builder's Bonanza today and so when I got home I dragged out my copy of the 2nd edition & did a quick comparison of the table of contents online. It seemed that most of the material was the same but perhaps rearranged a little bit. I didn't delve in detail into any of the EE related stuff that Predko supposedly was involved in rehashing. I welcome comments from anyone who has read in more detail both the 2nd and 3rd editions.

I also want to state that I received the 2nd edition in 2000 as a gift. Everytime I look at this book, it grows in value to me. 6 years ago - and even recently - I might not have realized how important and perfectly targetted some parts of the book are. The more I learn - especially from this newsgroup - and even more so by tinkering (snap crackle sizzle and ouch! ), the more valuable the contents of the 2nd edition becomes to me! Since I decided to finally build a bot totally from scratch I find myself reading in depth what I once glossed over.

Add me to the many fans saying "Thanks Gordon!"

"pogo"

I think a while ago Gordon mentioned he had nothing to do with the 3rd edition (besides the fact that he did the previous 2), but I could be completely wrong.

Cheers

Correct. I've passed the torch on this book as I pursue other interests within the field.

I now realize that my wording

"I didn't delve in detail into any of the EE related stuff that Predko supposedly was involved in rehashing."

might sound 'negative' ... I didn't mean it that way at all - I should have used wording other than 'supposedly'

Yep - I remember that. I was just trying to give a brief "review" of my quick flipping thru the book. I want to see if the new material is worth spending the money for the new edition.

Most of the stuff Myke added were BASIC Stamp projects. From what I can see, no new mechanical projects. So, if you're into Stamp stuff getting the new edition may be worth it. Otherwise, the Second Edition is still relevent, as it contains material that had to be cut to make room for the new projects in RBB3.

Cool - that pretty much tells me all I need to know! I've done enough Stamp work that I'd probably just get another book on Stamps if I need it.

Thanks for the on-target synopsis, Gordon.

Hi Gordon,

Heading off topic here on my part, but I don't get to talk with that many authors elsewhere :)

Since much of the content is still yours, even though you're not in any way involved with the 3rd edition, do you still get any sort of royalties because they're using you're previous work?

Just curious. Steve

Though I can't be too specific, as a general rule if an author's name is still on a book, s/he is getting at least a portion of the royalties.
