Southern Thunder 2005 Launch Announcement

The Music City Missile Club (MC2, Nashville, TN), the Huntsville Area Rocketry Association (HARA, Huntsville, AL), and the Birmingham Rocket Boys (BRB, Birmingham, AL) are proud to announce the second annual Southern Thunder launch (Southern Thunder 2005) Launch on May 14th and

15th, in Manchester, TN. Last year's launch was a big success (despite the inclement weather), and we believe that this launch will be one of the biggest launches, if not THE biggest, in the Southeast in 2005! We'd like to invite rocketeers from across the country to join us in this celebration of rocketry.

Location: The launch will be held on a huge sod farm, just outside Manchester, TN, on 1500 acres of beautiful turf. The field can easily support

1/4A - M impulse. We offer Level 1 & Level 2 high-power certifications (let us know in advance for L2 and L3 certifications), and we have a 10K AGL waiver. We will also have waiver extensions allowing launch windows to 22,000 feet each day and an night launch Saturday night.

Launch Pads and Motor Support: There will be dedicated and stand-alone pad cells for LMR and HPR solid motors and separate I/J/K and M hybrid pads and control systems. Nitrous and GOX for Hypertek (and other hybrids) rockets will be provided onsite also.

Launch Fees: Individual: $15 both days - $10 single day Family: $20 both days - $10 single day (so bring the family!)

Lodging: Ambassador Inn and Suites is offering great prices for ST2005 (see webpage for more details on pricing). For those who prefer to camp, the Manchester KOA campground is nearby. The motel is a 10-15 minute drive from the launch site.

Vendors: We are pleased to announce that Giant Leap Rocketry, Rebar Rocketry, Star Rocketry, and Hudson Classic Hobbies (local to Manchester) have confirmed that they will be attending the launch and covering our rocketry needs. Information for pre-ordering and using HPR APCP motors from the vendors can be found on the vendor webpage.

Media Coverage: A deal is far from being finalized, but we are in discussions with a dozen or so national media outlets and are very optimistic that we'll be able to arrange media coverage similar to the Discovery Channel coverage of LDRS. In conjunction with this media coverage, we are in discussion with GPSFlight to work a deal for streaming real-time rocket data onto the internet. As these areas are matured, updates will be posted to the webpage.

Other Stuff: Rocket contests, raffles, rocketburgers, we've gonna have it all! The raffle prizes are being solicited now, and some some really nice prizes, comparable to last year, are expected.
