Clones and Decals

I just put up a couple of pics on a.b.m.r. of two recently completed clones. Thanks to all who answered my questions about homebrew decal clearcoats, Future Floor Finish, etc.

The F.F.F. really made the Patriot decals come alive. I applied it directly to the Tango Papa decal sheets. I haven't put the final protective coat on the rockets yet. I'll wait and get several finished and do them all at once.

I'm working on the Red Max decals tonight, so I can comment a little on the two varieties of Bel decal paper I used.

I must say that the clear Bel decal material for inkjets is nice stuff. It's a little thicker than commercial water slide decals, but at least it doesn't disintegrate when you apply it like some kit decals I've had. It's a million times better than any of the stick on decals kits ship with these days. I use a Deskjet 722, and it applied the ink evenly and the resulting black decals were completely opaque.

As most of you know, the Red Max also has some white decals. I'm in the middle of their application tonight. Bel's white decal paper is much thicker than the clear. It isn't completely opaque, so my skull and crossbones have a slight pink tinge to them. The printed ink/acrylic sometimes chips away at the edges as you cut the decals, but it isn't very bad if you use good scissors and are smooth and careful. It's nowhere near as nice as the clear material and it's troublesome to cut the decals out exactly on the lines. If you need white decals, Tango Papa decals will save some headaches and is more opaque.
