Tim is a great guy - I am proud to say I know him well and fly with him. His wife is also very nice, and a good friend of mine. They are both great people that LOVE to fly rockets!!!!!!
That was the first time I had heard of a salvo launch. I like drag race.
that the regulation issue will be overlooked by newbies is not very likely. We are racing against time here, and new enthusiasts have a contribution to make in communicating their preferences to their elected offcials. I am afraid that this will not be the last casualty of the DOJ/BATFE
I let my diatribe on this sit overnight before posting. As a result, I snipped it and am keeping my mouth shut regarding my opinion of these purported "motorcycles".
My definition of beast? A Hayabusa with +400hp and 240 lb. ft. of torque. ;-)
All they would have to do is read and then stand by 27 CFR 555.141-a-8 and someone with political will and resources like them could easily do it .
Email them.
ROL proffers the position that ATF has jurisdiction over rockets despite this very clear exemption in Federal Regulation that empowers ATF. ROL is no help.
The primary reason Baskin Robbins does 31 flavors.......there are many different tastes.......much like rocketry, you have modrocs, oddrocs, boost gliders, RC boost gliders, L1, L2, L3, commercial, EX, hybrid,(soon) tribrid, solid, motor ejection, electronic ejection, GPS, videorocs, photorocs, minimum diameter, maximum diameter, one stage, multiple stage, single boost, air-start.........I know I missed a few. And you can pick whatever you consider to be fitting with your personality, finances, ingenuity, mechanical ability, imagination etc................That being said, the Velociraptor is indeed a beastly machine........225 is haulin' .......and at $20,000 what a bargain! Did I hear properly? The Orange County theme bikes go for $150,000? You could by 7 Velociraptors for that and use the last $10,000 to rent out the salt flat for the day. Or buy one and rent out Bonneville for a week or two. :-)
You want long threads with no end, go to Discoverychannel's American Chopper fan site and post "they aren't custom builders, they just assemble parts".

It ain't a real bike if it's missing a rocket motor.
No way. I perused a few threads over there and, for any of you who think the patients are running the asylum here on RMR, you should too. Makes RMR looked positively "cultured and urbane".
This is very disturbing for several reasons. First, I would suggest that the club continue as Model Rocketry club. The MIT Rocket Society operated for many years and produced much fruit, even without HPR. Universities often are exempted from excessive regulations. I'm not sure about the Homeland Security Act, but it may be worth reading the fine print. I'd guess that the problem lies with Kettering U., and HSA was just the last straw.
Zooty, Thanks for proving my point about anonymous posters. I give my reasons for why I think posting anonymously allows people to post things they would not do so otherwise, and then follow up with examples that counter 'Mr. Ed's' naysaying. Instead of adding anything of value, you try to criticize me for being an AOL user. Except that I'm not.
If you followed 'Mr. Ed's' advice and looked at the header of my post, you would see that it was via Google from a Verio IP address, not AOL. I use my AOL account as a return address because it is SPAM proof - I don't ever check it so I don't care how much spam it gets. The reason I have an AOL account if for testing compatibility of AOL's browser with a variety of websites.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a T1 line here at the office that is shared among 6 people. We have a Class C address (try getting one of those these days.) I don't use Windoze, so all those viruses that 'Mr. Ed' was complaining about don't bother me. Besides, if he's so 'technical', why would the viruses bother him anyway? Surely his anti-virus software would protect him. I could easily spoof my email address, but I don't need to. In fact, I have my own email server, so I can create new addresses at will if I need to.
Plus, you missed the argument completely. My point was that 'Mr. Ed' and others that post anonymously do so because they can't stand the heat, or they want to 'stir the pot', or just don't have the courage to say who they are. You can use a munged header and still say who you are without giving out your email address. I use an email address I don't use, but I'm not afraid to say who I am.
I was not being a bigot, as you are. I stated why I thought anonymous posters were not very credible, and gave a counter argument to 'Mr. Ed". My argument was completely relevant, since I stated that 'Mr Ed' might not make such statements if he used his real name. You, instead, resort to a bigoted statement that insults all AOL users.
Just for the heck of it, I even posted this under yet another ?disposable' but real email address.
I feel sorry for your daughter ? to have a father who would so harshly judge someone based on something as stupid as using AOL.
