[Planet News] SpaceCAD 4.0 Available – Rock et Design Software Covers Rocketeers from L aunch to Landing

STUTTGART, Germany, EUR -- SpaceCAD.com is proud to present the new version 4.0 of its award-winning rocket design software SpaceCAD for Microsoft Windows® that gives customers control over the complete flight ? from launch to landing.

SpaceCAD, which is official software for the world?s largest rocket contest TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge), has been improved based on experience and feedback from the students and mentors who used it to build their contest entry rocket. ?SpaceCAD 4 builds on its strong successor, and has been mightily improved? says Andreas Firnau, founder and owner of SpaceCAD.com, ?the new powerful features allow rocketeers to design and build better rockets with a very intuitive and easy-to-use application?.

SpaceCAD 4.0 contains an improved flight simulation model that also includes local atmospheric conditions like temperature and humidity. The flight results can be exported to spreadsheet programs. Also, the recovery of rockets is now fully simulated ? allowing up to two parachutes, plus covering drift prediction due to wind. Also, the real coefficient of drag (cd value) can now be derived from measured altitudes.

The parachute designer supports all types of parachute deployment ? timer based, height based. It supports two parachutes, so that you can have a small drogue chute that opens after apogee and a large one that opens close to the ground. This reduces the risk of losing your rocket because of drift while still providing safe landing conditions. SpaceCAD also computes the time it takes the rocket to land with the selected parachute configuration.

SpaceCAD 4 can be downloaded as a 30-day trial version. The full version is USD $59; updates are also available for US$ 30. Customers who bought SpaceCAD in the last six months are covered by the SpaceCAD upgrade policy and get the upgrade for free (electronic key, shipping charges for boxed version). This policy also covers the new SpaceCAD release. SpaceCAD is available through SpaceCAD directly at

About SpaceCAD: SpaceCAD is the model rocket software for model rocketeers that want to design or modify their own model rockets on their PC. SpaceCAD is an intuitive model rocket design suite that provides features like stability and flight prediction in one seamless package. SpaceCAD delights users who are dissatisfied with difficult software that requires hours of effort to learn.

Unlike other model rocket software, SpaceCAD also focuses on supporting the actual building of model rockets by providing extensive pattern printout options and has an extensive database of modelling materials that can be customized and extended. And there is a library of great SpaceCAD user?s designs on their web site.

SpaceCAD calculates the stability of model rockets by automatically determining the Centre of Gravity and the Centre of Pressure of model rockets, and instantly graphs a flight prediction for acceleration, speed and altitude. SpaceCAD can even design and analyse model rockets with multiple stages. It gives recommendations on rod length, parachute size and best delay times for any model rocket. SpaceCAD automatically checks for updates online - without sending personal information.

I hope they have the Rocksim files importation option fixed. Did not work in v3.1. I have both programs (paid for them mind you) as I saw some Level 3 documentation that had sims from both programs. I bought my license within the 6 month timeframe so we'll see if I have access to the upgrade as stated.

I did get the eval program to partially work under the Linux WINE 0.9.6 emulator. Here's to hoping it will work with an updated version of WINE when I get home. Rocksim 7.X.XX will run under the WINE emulator quite nicely although the 3D stuff is unusable in my hardware situation. Everything else works though.

I tried the upgrade option from v3.1 and wouldn't work. If you have bought v3.1 in the past 6 months, you probably should email and see how to affect an upgrade. My old registration didn't work with 4.0 and I registered in the last

3 months.

The import from Rocksim didn't work for me. Does it work for anyone else? Maybe because my boot drive is F:?

In 3.1 it never did work. I did hear from Andreas and received a new registration key. I am going to download 4 and try the import feature tonight. I registered in June.

Sorry I wasn'[t more clear. I downloaded the latest version and tried the import. It didn't work. I'll try it on one of my computers that boot from C Drive and see if that's works.

That is a key feature fo me because there aren't many predefined components that I use in SpaceCAD.
