THUNDERBIRDS at NARAM?

August, 1977, NARAM in Dallas, TX. I have just spent the whole day on tracking because the second shift didn't show up. I crawled back to the motel, took a cold shower, and am lying on the bed in my skivvies, soaking wet, under the blast from the room air conditioner, trying to get my body temperature down. Four guys burst into my room and tell me I've got to go stand in line for an hour to see a movie. They got my sorry butt dressed and out, we stand in line for an hour, and that was when I saw Star Wars for the first time...in a theatre full of rocket guys. It's a great memory.

Well, here we are heading for NARAM, and the THUNDERBIRDS movie premieres on July 30. Anyone want to pick an evening to get a group together to go see it? I'm not expecting it to be Star Wars, but a lot of us have a lot of affection for THUNDERBIRDS, and I'm looking forward to discussing the movie with fellow fans. It would be fun to see it in a theatre full of rocket people. If you're interested, drop me an email at dad-at-pratthobbies-dot-com. I can offer rides from the hotel in my van.

1977 was your NARAM in KC. You were probably too fried all week to remember who you were, much less where you were. That's the right year for Star Wars. Remember Alan Tuskes in his Darth Vader costume in that line?

Yes, in 1977 NARAM-19 was in Kansas and Doug Pratt was CD. The movie theatre, which was next door to the host hotel, the Glenwood Manor, was torn down just a couple of years ago. I went to see Star Wars for the seveth time and I was so exausted that I fell asleep in the theatre. I believe I woke up when the Battlestar blew up.

Fast foward to 2004. The Regal (Hoyts) Cinemas Cinemas Manassas Stadium 14 is directly across the street from the NARAM-46 host hotel (about a 12 minute walk -- it's a big street and an even bigger mall). There's agood chance that Thunderbirds will be palying there.

So what evening has an opening in the schedule for 150 sweaty rocketeers to invade an air conditioned theater? Can we book advanced tickets?

I did wear that to see the movie, didn't I? What the hell was I thinking?!?!? Actually, the only issue of the model rocketeer I have from the 70's is the NARAM issue from that year.... my mom saved it for that picture.
