I seem to recall that the Futura was originally painted pearl white, with a purpottedly lovely iridescent sheen. When the Futura was used in a movie ("The Young at Heart"?) the paint did not photograph well, so the car was repainted red.
Nowadays, of course, it's black. ;^)

If you check out the side of the box on the newest re-issue of the Futura, Revellogram has one painted black! Then the description of the car states that Hollywood later turned it into a star of tv and the big screen as the ride for a famous pair of superheroes. Holy vagueness I wonder whom they are referring to?
