MBB Lampyridae German Stealth fighter Demonstrator

Does anyone have any general arrangement drawings on the DASA-Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm (MBB) Lampyridae (Fire Fly) German Stealth fighter Demonstrator?

I haven't found much information on the dimensions of the plane. Have seen some pictures of it, on the internet. I'm planning to build a card stock model of it. I would appreciate a copy of the plans.

I think it was about the size of the Rockwell International / Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm X-31A Experiment Fighter Demonstrator, which was built around the same time as the Lampyridae was being designed in 1981. They have a streaking similarity in appearance to each other.

Thank you, Gary

I was going to say that it looks more like Have Blue than the X-31, but there are two prototypes, with quite different shapes (esp. the canopy):

t'other:

I've no more information than you, but I'm planning to visit the museum that has one of them (also to collect data for building a model...)

Ha. I do now, it seems. I've got a 3-view. It'll be a few days before I can put it on the Web, though.

Ha, I have a couple of websites that you don't have.

mentions the length and wingspan of the full-scale RCS-measurement model (length 16 m, span 8 m).

has computer rendered pictures of the Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm (MBB) Lampyridae with it's langing gear down.

It does looks like the Have Blue XST prototype, but it also looks like a cross between the Have Blue XST prototype, the F-106 Delta Dagger and the W.W. II Lippish DM-1 glider.

I already found the picture of the prototype with the different shaped canopy.

and the other one

I would like to get a copy of the 3-view drawing.

Thanks, Gary

I think they are mockups. IIRC, the one in the second photo was used for wind tunnel and radar reflection tests, and was essentially a solid model. The first one looks like that also, sheet metal put over some framework. That large unstealthy canopy looks like an afterthought. Perhaps a design for a trainer, or a test prototype where pilot vision would be more important than stealth? Kim M

PS- Unimodel has a 1/72 model in the works.

I thought that was the model used for wind tunnel tests.

Oh, excellent.

Ah. I had length=12, width=6 m, but that would be for the 3/4 scale aerodynamics testbed, then.

Yeah, I'd seen that. I've no idea how accurate it is, though. I'll see if I can track down who made the model. ...

Sure.

That's Unicraft models, not Unimodel. You can vote for the Lampyridae on their 'Future releases' page:

All the information I've been able to find on the Lampyridae and the Dornier LA-2000 (another German stealth project from the same period) is available here:

Thanks for sharing the 3-view drawing and the Flight International Magazine article on the MBB Lampyridae. I appreciate it. I was surprised how they cut the exhaust pipe off at an angle.

Should have thought it would have been angled the other way, actually...
