Modeling WWII in North Africa

Dear Group,

I was wondering if there are reference books that list all types of armor used by all the combatants in the North African campaign including the Torch landings and Tunisia? Has anyone compiled a list of kits of all types, resin limited run, regular issue, that are availible in 1/35 scale and 1/76,1/72 scale?

I suppose in the case of books one must turn to many different volumes to get apicture of armored vehicles employed in the African theatre of operations.

Finally I realize a lot of types of vehicles are only availible in resin or white metal, especially the small stuff. Who are some of the major dealers in the more esoteric kits from these campaigns. Especially the Italian and British types one never sees in major release. I could hope that some of these dealers are readily accesssible to USA customers.

Thanks,

Albert Cherer

Two useful titles are "Tanks in Camera" by David Fletcher and "Tank Combat in North Africa: The Opening Rounds : Operations Sonnenblume, Brevity, Skorpion and Battleaxe February 1941-June 1941" by Steven Zaloga. Fletcher has compiled a photo book from soldiers' personal snapshots taken in Africa and collected by The Tank Museum over the years, so it provides many fresh images of rarely photographed machines. Zaloga's photo essay covers the first few months of the desert campaign in excruciating detail. "Armour camouflage & markings, North Africa, 1940-1943" by George Bradford is a handy little title if you can locate it, though some of his findings about cammo and markings have been revised since the book's publicaion in 1974. Osprey and Concord have published numerous useful books over the years, with the newest Concord book covering US forces in North Africa. Squadron has just published a book on Italian AFVs by Dr. Niccolo Pignato. GPO
