Being from Calif. it goes for 1500 to1800.00 a month.

Price comparison, Rancho Cordova, CA (Sacramento area)
1966 one bedroom, furnished, utilities paid, $120.00 per month 2002 same apartment, unfurnished $1250.00 per month, plus utilities.Rick Clark But then $120.00 a month was just about my housing allowance.
According to the Minneapolis Federal Reserve bank's online inflation calculator, it's worth $1272.04 just for the inflation, not including change in real price due to scarcity or any other factor.
no one has mentioned the fright of knowing that CHiPs is still on TV!

My prices are Orange Co. prices. San Clemente to Irvine area.
What's ironic (sort of?) is that California inflation has caused Seattle prices to rocket as Californians moved up here. All of a sudden, houses were going for insane amounts. Now that the dotcom rush is over, prices haven't gone down much at all.
Remembering a wonderful bumper sticker from the 80's: Don't Californicate Washington!!
(all in jest; I know a couple of Californians I've been working on to move up here)
Depends on where in California. CHiPs was set in L.A., I believe. I was paying a share of $267/month rent for a two-bedroom in Riverside in 1974 (near the UC campus); call it about-average amenities in an about-average community--rents in Westwood (UCLA) at the same time would probably have been close to double that. Assuming rents were at least
15% higher five years later, that's around $310/month. So $500/month was probably an average community's nicer apartment rent costs, or slightly down-market for Westwood.Today in Fremont, in Northern California, the $1500-$1800 range is realistic for a 2-bedroom, but upper scale would be closer to $2000/month in a lot of places. A high-demand location might get closer to $3000. Meanwhile, multiple refis have got my mortgage down so low I couldn't afford to rent a furnished room for the same money. No wonder I can waste all this money on styrene. But it's really a rip for renters.

There's very little change for entry-level houses in the Bay Area, despite the massive job loss, because there is so much pent-up demand at the entry level, and mortgage money is still cheap--the prices continue to go up, though more slowly. Median to top-"value" properties are stagnating a bit, though.

Aw, it's a fun show! I'm looking for a t-shirt similar to the one my bf had as a child. It's a t-shirt but it's made to look like the shirts that Ponch & Jon wore.
My earliest memories are of eating coffee ice cream and watching ChiPs.
