OT -- Modelhawk is finally back on line!

Well, it's been a struggle but I'm back on the net. I found out that, at the new house, Verizon DSL isn't available and I had to arrange for a cable connection. It took three days after the installer "set it up" to get it truly working so I could get on line. This is sort of a test message to make sure I really do have connectivity to RMS.

Hi

Welcome to the wonderful world of broadband.

Screw DSL, comcast blows it away, and being a gamer myself, it's the best thing possible for me :)

Surfing the net will never be the same !

I get a consistent 2.5MB throughput from SBC/Yahoo! DSL for $24.99 a month. I dunno if Comcast around here is faster but it sure costs a lot more.

Hi Al,

Might you have intended to say that your DSL service gives you 2.5 Mb -- i.e, 2.5 mega*bits* per second, which corresponds to approximately 0.3 MB (0.3 megabytes, or 300 kilobytes)? I've never heard of a reasonably-priced DSL service that advertises -- let alone delivers --

2.5 mega*bytes* per second.

Hi Al

7 mbps, with an average of 4 - 6 for a whole day. But yes, twice what you pay :(

on the left side of the page under the "TOOLS" tab, you'll find a battery of tests that will give you tweaks to improve thruput/transfer rate, in addition to a speed test. Broadband reports will also explain the difference between speed and thruput to include transfer efficiency. It's a great test resource and it's free.

is another good site for checking thruput, it's not as busy and there are more servers available to test your system. As with the above, toast is a free site. HTH, Bruce
