From e:

I'm with Bill. I have a VHS copy from Teddy's airing a few (or more) years ago. Switching to DVD is akin to duping or replacing all our 33s onto/ with cassettes. And we know how long that took ---until we had to buy tapes because vinyl fossilized. But I'll bet we held onto our 8 tracks until they wore out.

Oh yeah, VHS machines weren't the first media players to taste PB n J, 8 track players were :-) No 8 track tapes left but I still have my first Capeheart combo stereo bought when I civilianized in '72

Lynne has hung on to her operational Beta and a box of films as well as her very early disk player.

The movie was on a disk about the size of a 33 1/3 record but was sealed in a box. The box was inserted into the machine, deposited the disk, then spit out the box.

Anybody remember these things? She has about thirty of the disks. Quality is superb.

Justin has so many VHS movies that we got him a combo VHS/DVD, but every new purchase for a year now has been DVD.

A recent "The Simpsons" had Homer walking through the dump with mounds in the background labeled "Beta", "Laser Discs", and "Video Tapes", with an open space signed "Reserved for DVDs". . .

Oh yeah, and then when I get the coin together to get all my VHS dubbed onto DVD discs some jerk will bring out the next 'great thing'. I really wasn't getting in line for CDs until you and Daniel Fishman recorded some for me. I guess I'm going to have to spring for a CD player now or forever be stuck here with the computer when I want to hear what's on the discs. Meanwhile I'm STILL working on taping my records....and the surviving 8 Tracks.
