question somewhat O/T

Hi Troops:

I am asking this here because I know there are a couple of Gents here who are fairly literate on the subject of computer drafting. Essentially, I am asking what are the differences between Auto-Desk's AutoCad Light and AutoSketch, aside from about $600 in price.

AutoSketch is just what the name indicates. A _sketching_ program. The only time I had the (un)pleasure of reciving a drawing, that has been made with this program hell was upon me :-( The lines are not drawn in right angels. Parallel lines where _not_ parallel. Lines of the same length was of different length.

On the other hand, with Autocad Light you get a _drawing_ program.

So what is your need? The only person to tell you what program is the right for you, is you.

I think AC Light has more bells and whistles. However, I have been a satisfied user of Autosketch for about 10 years. It is only a 2D drafting program, but I find it satisfactory for all my modeling work. I use it a lot, since I do a lot of scratch building. I make templates of parts I have to cut out, cut them out, and put them on stock with rubber cement.

I sometimes use it to make decals, if the size of the decals are critical.

I use it to make jigs for things like circular dividing and such.

This may have been a user problem. I find the results very good- parallel lines, right angles, accurate rotational arrays (dividing of circles), accurate linear arrays, etc.

One has to use the right tools, of course. There are parallel line duplication functions, snap functions, perpendicular functions, and closing of joints. One has to select and use them, though.
