Yes, I was thinking of the original Battlestar Galatica, but would also like to get some kits for the new and "improved" Galatica. . .

FWIW I was in a "Best Buy" the other day and noticed a boxed set of DVD's for the Battlestar Galactica series. Was only one season as I remember.

Was there an official 2nd season,or just the mistake called Galactica 1980? And did it include the pilot movie, which I already bought seperately?
My memory, backed up by the dvd,is that the movie was made as such.(It doesnt look like its edited from two episodes, although I don't doubt they cut it up for syndication.) And I think it was released the same year,I remember going with my mother, and I was about 10 at the time.
the movie was made from the first two pilot episodes...honest. in the cd collection you get them as such. the movie has lots of cuts.
There was only one season of the original series.
Nope, it was the other way around. The pilot movie was shown in theaters outside the US two months before its television premier. I remember seeing it here in Canada and then waiting for the TV series to start on ABC.
From the FAQ at :
"Initially planned as a series of telemovies consisting of a three-hour premiere and two two-hour movies, ABC executives upgraded the project to a full television series, after viewing the first half hour. The deal was signed several weeks before the Battlestar Galactica pilot appeared as a two-hour theatrical release in Canada, Europe and Japan."
"Universal purchased 80 prints of film to run across Canada [...] Opening on July 7, 1978, the theatrical release did very well, a typical run lasting six weeks."
"The three-hour pilot episode premiered on ABC on September 17, 1978"
No, that would be Monogram. (If you're describing the *original* series.) They did models of the "Galactica" (with alternate decals for the "Pacifica"), the Cylon Basestar, the Colonial Viper, and the Cylon Raider. I've built them all at one time or another, and they're slightly-to-*way*-below-average-for-'70s-Monogram quality.
No, it's the other way around. It started off as a movie, and was later cut into 3 episodes (not 2) for syndication.
July 1978: Canadian theatrical release. Sept 1978: ABC premiere in a 3-hour time slot. May 1979: US theatrical release.
There were a number of changes between these three versions. This page describes the differences: It also mentions the DVD release of the movie, but not the series box set.
some guy on the galactaca ng said larson said the opposite. i have not seen the interview to verify. if the movie was out first, it makes sense the episodes were later and i will accept that.
